Companion Bot — a Rust NPC teammate that farms, loots and has your back

Players buy a companion with scrap and it behaves like a real teammate: it walks, it farms, it runs your base chores, and it can die. No teleports, no flying, no AI service — every decision is plain code running on your server.

What it does

How Companion Bot works

Most Rust bot plugins spawn an NPC that stands there or shoots things. This one was written to feel like a teammate. It follows at walking pace and only runs when it makes sense, climbs what a player can climb and waits below when it can't, and falls asleep next to you when you log out — where it can be killed, like any sleeper. If it dies, its backpack drops for whoever killed it and you buy another.

It ranks up with experience (ranks 1–5). Low ranks farm near you; from rank 2 it clears barrels along the roads; from rank 3 it loots monuments, hunts and recycles; from rank 4 it fights back in PvP instead of hiding. At home it tidies boxes into the right containers, fills the tool cupboard, keeps furnaces and the campfire going, repairs damaged walls, crafts bandages, harvests and replants the farm and closes doors you left open.

It is also more human than a bot usually is: each one has a temper (calm, joker, grumpy or brave), talks in team chat and answers when you talk to it (in Portuguese, for now), gets hungry and eats from its bag, grows a friendship with its owner, picks you up when you're downed, heals you with its own bandages, guards your stuff when you die, and can stand sentry at your base — telling you which side a stranger or a raid is coming from.

Features

What you get

  • Bought with scrapOne price in the config (100 scrap by default). Dies for real; a new one starts again from rank 1.
  • Farms like a playerWood, stone, metal and sulfur with the right tool, plus loose resources on the way. A virtual backpack that survives restarts.
  • Barrels, monuments, hunting, recyclingUnlocked by rank, so progression means something.
  • Base choresSorts boxes, fills the TC, furnaces, cooking, repairs, bandages, farm, doors — or decides on its own with /bot sozinho.
  • Raid-cost adviserWalks your base and tells you what it would cost to raid it, and what your base is missing.
  • Sentry modeWarns in team chat when a stranger approaches or the base takes explosive damage — distance and side only, never the raider's name.
  • Talks backAnswers when you talk to it in team chat — in Portuguese today (“bot, estás bem?”, “obrigado”, “anda”, “fica”). Varied lines, never the same one twice in a row.
  • Cares for youRevives you when you're downed, heals you, eats when hungry, keeps a daily diary.

FAQ

Questions

Is it available to buy?

Not yet. It is running on our test server and we will only sell it after it has been played on for real. Get in touch if you want to be told when it ships.

Does it teleport or fly to keep up?

No. It walks and runs. The only “move” it ever makes is when it is very far away and nobody can see either spot — to the player it just arrives.

Can other players kill it?

Yes. It fights back from rank 4 and hides below that. If it dies, its backpack drops.

Does it use ChatGPT or another AI?

No. Its “brain” and its chat replies are plain code on your server — no API bill, no latency, nothing leaves the machine.
